The Atal Tunnel (Rohtang Tunnel) opened year-round access to Sissu and the Lahaul Valley, making the Solang Valley + Atal Tunnel + Sissu tour one of the most popular day trips from Manali. The tunnel is 9.02 km long and is the world's longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet. The Manali to Atal Tunnel distance is about 29 km via Solang Valley (roughly 1 hour by taxi), and no permit is required for the Atal Tunnel or Sissu — the NGT permit applies only to Rohtang Pass.
