Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the pickup and drop?
Pickup is at Shimla (hotel / station / ISBT) on Day 1 and the drop at Manali (hotel / Volvo Parking) on Day 8.
What is the best time for this Spiti tour?
Mid-June to mid-October, when Kunzum La and the Chandratal road are open. July to September is the most popular time. From mid-December to mid-March choose our Winter Spiti Tour or the 4x4 Expedition instead.
Is a permit needed for Spiti?
Indian travellers only need a photo ID card at the Sumdo check post. Foreign nationals need an inner line permit for the border area between Kinnaur and Spiti, which we can arrange on request.
How do we avoid altitude sickness?
The tour climbs slowly from Kinnaur into Spiti, which helps you get used to the altitude. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and walk slowly in Kaza and at Kunzum La. Oxygen cylinders and Diamox are not included.
Which vehicles are used on the Spiti route?
Ertiga, Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta and Mahindra Scorpio N for up to 6 persons, and Tempo Traveller for 12, 14 or 17 persons. Thar, Jimny and Hilux 4x4 are available only on self-drive rent in winter. Small cars like Alto or Dzire are not used on the Spiti roads.
Is the price the same on all dates?
Yes. The cab has one per-day rate for the whole year and hotels and camps have one fixed rate, so the calculator shows the same complete amount on every date. Tours shorter than 6 days have ₹500 per day extra on the cab (₹1,000 per day on a Tempo Traveller).
Do children pay for the hotel?
Children below 5 years stay free in the hotel. Children from 5 years are charged per person, and a room takes up to 3 adults or 2 adults with 2 children below 12.
How much advance is needed to book?
20% advance confirms the booking and the balance is paid on arrival. 5% GST is added only if you need a GST bill.
